Helping Hats
I really like to help out my community. In my opinion a strong community must help those who are in need. It is important to me that everyone feels loved and cared for by their neighbors. Community service is a great way to help others. At the end of junior year of high school, the Varsity lacrosse team was given the opportunity to help a local kid and his family for a whole week. This kid has cancer. Seeing him fighting everyday made me feel really sad for him and his family. I really enjoyed helping this kid and I want to help even more kids who are battling with cancer. I have narrowed my focus from Community Service to helping kids with cancer.
My project will be a service based project designed to focus on helping these kids through people donating new hats. The name of this project will be called helping hats. This project will hopefully help our community feel cared for. I am going to accomplish doing my part to make sure that everyone in our community does not fight alone. I also hope to accomplish running a successful hat drive. I will be receiving help from my Mom and by a national organization called, Ellie’s Hats. Ellie’s Hats is a nonprofit that helps kids who are battling with this terrible disease. Costs will be putting up flyers around town and having a box outside my house so people can just drop the hats and be on their way. A challenge that I may come across on this project is that no one will donate new hats.
My project will help me grow as an individual. The skills and knowledge of this topic will hopefully stay with me throughout my whole life. I have done this before and it was really fun but it took a lot of hard work. I expect to acquire the skills and knowledge it takes to run a successful hat drive.I will run this hat drive for the whole month of May. In order for this hat drive to be a success, I want to collect at least 70 hats. Even if I do not meet my goal I would still feel good about myself because I was able to help these kids. These skills would consist of learning to be patient, and getting the word out about the hat drive.
This project will relate to my future by possibly being a volunteer coach or keep on helping those with cancer. In college I hope to help the community a lot, this can be from participating in fun runs, or joining clubs that help others. I hope this project will impact those who I will be helping and also those who will be helping me accomplish my goal. I also hope this project will encourage others to help their community in big way or in small ways, you never know whose life you will change.
